Sesame salt – a way to reduce your salt intake while adding calcium

My son has a love of salt. I don’t know why, but he LOVES salt. Our diet is fairly low in added salt since we buy very few processed items, but I decided to make this love into something healthier. Concerned as most parents are about proper calcium intake, I’ve been using sesame salt to add calcium to our diets while decreasing our need for salt.

Warning: not using much salt in your own cooking has the adverse effect of making you notice how salty most food is. This makes eating out a different experience to put it mildly. I personally love eating at home now.

Ingredients
4 tbsp. unhulled sesame seeds
2 tsp. pink Himalayan salt

Instructions

Grind sesame seeds (I use a coffee grinder). Mix ground sesame with salt. Sprinkle on sandwiches, salads, potatoes, or whatever strikes your fancy.
