Ibis

Gathered among a congregation of avians
Egrets, herons, spoonbills, storks
The scarlet ibis family
Spectacular, brightly colored waders
With long curved bills
I observed them from the hotel balcony
Many nested in the mangrove trees
Their bright scarlet like berries among the green
Others probed for insects and crustaceans along the shore
I observed them while thinking about the meaning of life

Another beautiful post. You left me wanting to be in Florida, watching the birds.

Thank you. I’ve got the travel bug recently too. Dreaming of somewhere hot and tropical.

Oh, so lovely. A reflective poem. I always think of the short story, The Scarlet Ibis, when I see that word. Sad story.

Yes, “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst is a poignant story.

There is also “Scarlet Ibis” by Margaret Atwood, which isn’t so sad.

I think those two stories tie very nicely into this poem and my intentions with it.

A great visual poem, balanced between bird and life observations. It’s beautiful.

Here I am overlooking Pittwater in Palm Beach Sydney watching the Ibis at low tide. Isn’t the world such a beautiful place and thank you for sharing your inspirational poem and for visiting me at Beyond the Flow. Good luck with the rest of the A-Z Challenge.

I couldn’t resist stopping by when I saw the title of your blog. I thought you either had a wicked sense of humour or were a complete health nut and I was curious either way. My daughter also has some digestion issues and one of the questionable foods is broccoli because it’s quite fibrous. I quite like broccoli but then I also love life lessons and reading the Thesaurus.

I’m so glad you came by. Nice to know clever naming techniques still work to some extent. I guess I am a bit of a health nut, and I do like broccoli, but in all honesty I’m more of a chocoholic than anything else.

Me too. Have you ever tried Tim Tams? I forget where everyone is from but I’m just about to bite into a coconut Tim Tam. Absolutely divine!
