handsThe Truth

She didn’t make much of an impression when we first met, but maybe I was just fooling myself. She was my first real infatuation – the way she spoke, dressed, smelled, her hair. Thoughts of her filled my days. I could smell her perfume – even now, all these years later, I am brought back to the day we first kissed when a hint of her scent enters my nostrils. She seems to be everywhere always. Never gone from my mind.

Stop. Delete that. I’ll begin again. This time, the truth.

When I first saw her, she took my breath away.

For my last post for this challenge, I decided to add a flash fiction piece. My flash fiction and poetry are the most popular types of posts, which makes me so happy. My fiction is actually the best way to get to know me. Take that to mean whatever you’d like.

I’ve combined this challenge with my response to Charli Mills’ Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction Challenge.

July 15, 2015 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about a breathless moment. Write about life.

I was nominated to take part in this photo challenge by Geoff Le Pard, who tells the most interesting stories and takes us on wonderful walks, as well as the talented and amazing Sacha Black. I nominate Christina Rose of The Wordy Rose to take up this challenge. She’s a talented writer and I look forward to seeing what she comes up with.

The rules of the Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge are:

1) Post a photo each day for five consecutive days.
2) Attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or a short paragraph. It’s entirely up to the individual.
3) Nominate another blogger to carry on the challenge. Your nominee is free to accept or decline the invitation. This is fun, not a command performance!

Just wanted to add, I think we can always discover so much about others by the means of their creative production.

Thank you so much, Solveig. I approached this challenge so differently than other things I’d done on this blog, but I really enjoyed this way of doing things, so I may continue with such an approach. I also wanted this challenge to be a way for readers to get to know me a bit better.

You are welcome. I think that your approach was great. Seen that I have read some of your pieces, I am curious at how you are. I feel that each time we learn something new.

Wow, loved that flash fiction piece. A 99 word story is difficult. I can be rather verbose so I may challenge myself to do that at some point. I also loved that photo..I need to find a ring like that!

99 words is a fun challenge. It seems impossible, but fun to play around with. It’s amazing how much story can fit in only 99 words. Thank you, Hollie.

The photo is a stock photo, but thank you anyway. It seemed to fit. It is a great ring isn’t it?

Thank you so much for thinking of me. I apologize for not responding sooner, I just saw this, something is wonky with “pingbacks” when my blog is linked.

I will definitely be giving this a go! Hoping to start sometime in the next week. Loving your posts through this challenge! 🙂

And I agree with you regarding fiction and poetry. They seem to be my most popular posts as well which is so encouraging as fiction and poetry are the types of writing I most enjoy and the work that I most appreciate the commendation on 🙂

The pingback might not have worked because I forgot to add the nomination when I first posted. I fixed it within minutes, but I think it doesn’t do a pingback then. I think.
I look forward to reading what you come up with.

Love the way this flash meanders, builds…then stops! And the truth flows in the final sentence. Beautiful story, but also creative and effective structure. I like getting to know you through your flash and poetry! 🙂

Thank you, Charli. This definitely didn’t come out how I had initially envisioned it, but this may actually be better. Writing flash is such a fun way to experiment and test out different things. I enjoy it immensely.
